New animation explains how GP practices can refer patients to a community pharmacist for minor illness consultations

PSNC has published a video animation and infographic explaining how GP practices can refer patients with minor illnesses to a local pharmacist.

The NHS Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS) enables the safe referral of patients from other parts of the NHS including GP practices, to community pharmacists.

The service frees up other healthcare providers to provide appointments for patients with more complex or higher acuity needs, whilst improving access for those with lower acuity conditions. Already offered by 94% pharmacies who receive referrals from NHS 111, the service is in the process of expanding to include GP referrals.

The animation and infographic, as well as one page explanatory document HERE, describe the GP referral pathway into the CPCS and the benefits it can bring to practices and patients, including how referrals work and what pharmacists do with those referrals, as well as highlighting the success of NHS 111 referrals into the CPCS.
